Off-topic, Then Back On
I need to go off-topic just long enough to say...
Steve, you're still dreamy. And Apple—you continue to rock my world.
Okay, back on topic:
Are salads part of your family's New Year's resolutions? In its most recent financial news, Wendy’s said it will promote a new cranberry pecan chicken salad in first quarter of 2007. It's a limited-time, seasonal cranberry pecan chicken salad, featuring spring mix greens, Mandarin oranges, chicken, dried cranberries, and pecans, with a berry balsamic vinaigrette dressing.
It looks and sounds pretty good (see below for a picture).
Baby A won't eat salad greens yet. Parents of older kids, please tell me—when should I expect that to start?

At the very least, I bet she'd pick the oranges, chicken, and pecans off of this salad, which would be just fine.

I suspect it's a personality thing. My 9-year-old still doesn't like the leafy parts of salad, and my 4-year-old has begged to have bites of my lettuce since she could eat solids. I would advise encouraging Baby A to try all the other salad components, plus finding a few salad dressings she likes. Eventually she'll figure out that everything, even the leaves, are tasty dipped in, say, balsamic vinaigrette or honey nustard. :D

Thanks! I'll keep trying with her. Baby A happens not to be one of the many little kids who like to dip foods. I need to encourage her to have fun with that, too.
On another note, I was speaking a few months ago with the vp and communications director of a BBQ restaurant chain (sit-down, not quick serve). He said they'd added a kids' tossed salad the year before and it's a *huge* seller. Cool, huh?
